Northeast Credit Union Foundation’s Nourish Network 5K Road Race Series Concludes

Portsmouth, New Hampshire

Portsmouth, NH – November 10, 2023— The Northeast Credit Union Foundation has successfully concluded its inaugural Nourish Network Road Race Series. These dedicated 5K run/walks events were designed to enrich and nourish the lives of others, while supporting worthy causes throughout the Pine Tree State. The races were an extraordinary opportunity to make a significant impact on local communities and extend the credit union’s reach on a global scale.

The Nourish Network Road Race Series kicked off on October 15th with the Grahamtasic Connection 5K Run/Walk. Hosted in partnership with Grahamtastic Connection at the Nasson Community Center in Springvale, this event raised funds and awareness for their mission to provide free technology to children with cancer and other serious illnesses to support their education, as well as their social and emotional well-being. Through the generous support of participants, sponsors, and volunteers, Northeast was able to contribute to this cause and honor Grahamtastic Connection’s 25th anniversary.

The finale of the road races took place on Sunday, November 5th, at Rock Row in Westbrook. The 5K Run/Walk, hosted in collaboration with Rock Row, was a resounding success. Proceeds from this event were dedicated to Safe Passage, a top-rated, nonprofit school in Guatemala City. Safe Passage School, based in New Gloucester and founded by a Bowdoin College alum, brings hope, education, and opportunity to the children and families living near one of the largest landfills in Central America. The Nourish Network Road Race Series has made a significant contribution to the cause of supporting education and opportunity for those in need.

The Nourish Network 5K Road Race Series concluded with a celebration at Rock Row. The event served as an opportunity to honor the beneficiaries of each race in the series, recognizing their invaluable contributions to the community. Representatives from Grahamtastic Connection, Safe Passage, and Apex Youth Connection in Biddeford were present to receive their well-deserved recognition and the 2023 Nourish Network awards along with the charitable contributions generated from the series. Everyone who ran, walked, volunteered, or contributed to the charitable efforts of the races, was invited to the post-race celebration at Lone Pine Brewing at Rock Row. After a moment of silence and moving rendition of the National Anthem by Andrew Cotton from Northeast Credit Union’s Biddeford branch, attendees enjoyed the vocal stylings of Maine’s own Kris Hype while they played cornhole, enjoyed refreshments, and the general camaraderie of the day.

Dan Raposa, Executive Director of the Northeast Credit Union Foundation, expressed his gratitude and shared his vision: “The Northeast Credit Union Foundation believes in supporting local organizations through events, sponsorships, volunteerisms and collaborations, who are doing their part to enrich and nourish the lives of others. Joining forces with these important organizations to bring the Nourish Network 5K Event Series to life will not only benefit our Maine communities but will have a lasting impact on a broader scale. Whether folks supported the inaugural series by volunteering, fundraising, donating to a participant or running/walking, there were opportunities for everyone to join the movement and make a difference.”
