Georgia Fights to End Hunger In Her Community

After six-year-old Georgia Merrill spotted a man holding a sign that read “Hungry. Please help.” she simply could not understand how some people in the world are unable to eat when they are hungry. Knowing that feeling sorry was not enough to help, Georgia started The Peach Project with the help of her family. Through The Peach Project, Georgia holds multiple fundraisers each year including selling her homemade bracelets, Christmas ornaments, and peach barbeque sauce across the U.S with the goal of raising money for the less fortunate.

Since founding The Peach Project in 2015, Georgia, now ten years old, has raised nearly $13,000 for the New Hampshire Food Bank and One Mission. Her most successful fundraiser was last year’s Christmas Show held in Brentwood, NH. Georgia, along with 61 local children, performed an original play written by Georgia and her mother along with a chorus, raffle, and bake sale for the Brentwood community, raising over $5,000 for local charities. Thanks to her philanthropy, Georgia was a recipient of the Boston Celtics’ Heroes Among Us award in January 2019, an award given to those working to make the world a better place.
