5 Ways To Keep Kids Active Indoors

//

Although outdoor play is limited during cold or rainy days, it’s important to find creative ways for your kids to stay active and exercise indoors.

Simple household items you have lying around can be used to make fun games for your kids.

We came up with a few easy, kid-friendly activities that will keep them occupied and active.

  1. Freeze dance -Who doesn’t like a good dance party? Shaking it off to a few favorite jams is a surefire way to get your kids (and even you) moving and grooving. The rules are simple: dance when the music plays and when the designated DJ stops the music, everyone freezes in place.
  2. Yoga JENGA – Using a pencil, write down a yoga move on each JENGA block. Set the tower up and play the game like normal, but each time a block is removed, every player has to perform the yoga move written on the block. If the tower falls, everyone does a plank for 30 seconds.
  3. Hula hoop – Hula-hooping is a great indoor activity that helps strengthen your child’s core muscles. Just make sure your child isn’t too close to furniture or fragile items. You can switch things up a bit by hula-hooping while walking backward, or spinning the hoop around your ankle or arm.
  4. Hallway soccer – You don’t need a yard to play a game of soccer. You can set up a net on opposite ends of the hallway by using some masking tape on the floor. After dividing into teams, grab a small plastic or foam ball and let the fun begin!
  5. Broom hockey – Similar to hallway soccer, make a net on the floor using masking tape. Divide everyone into two teams, making sure every player has a small broom and use a tennis ball as your puck. The first team to get 10 points wins.
